Jayne Lammers
Award Year: 2019

Under 2019 Fulbright US Scholar Program, Dr. Jayne Lammers is collaborating with Indonesian Fulbright alumna Dr. Puji Astuti of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) on a research project entitled “The Digital Literacies of Indonesian Secondary Students: An Exploration to Inform Their Educators.” Together, they are conducting qualitative surveys and interviews with students in several Semarang secondary schools to answer the research question: What are the digital literacy practices of Indonesian secondary students? Their study seeks to inform Indonesian teachers and teacher educators about their students’ digital literacies for the purpose of helping them address ICT-related curriculum mandates and prepare Indonesia’s youth for full participation in our connected global community.

Dr. Lammers is an associate professor of education at the University of Rochester’s Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development in Rochester, New York where she directs the secondary English teacher preparation program and serves as an associate director in the Center for Learning in the Digital Age. She holds a PhD in curriculum and instruction, with an emphasis in language and literacy, from Arizona State University. Previously, Jayne worked as a secondary English and Reading teacher in Orlando, Florida. She has conducted numerous studies to better understand how young people use online spaces to find mentors, collaborators, and audiences as they pursue their passions and develop as writers.

This is Dr. Lammers’ first Fulbright award and she looks forward to learning with and from the Indonesian students and educators she will meet during her time affiliated with UNNES.

Her research is expected to be completed by February 2020.
