Applications are invited for the position of Diversity and Inclusion Liaison for Fulbright Programs in the East Asian and Pacific region (EAP). Reporting to the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) in Washington, D.C., and based as a consultant at AMINEF, the Fulbright Commission in Jakarta, Indonesia, the Liaison will develop, lead, implement, and evaluate initiatives promoting diversity and inclusion (DI).

The chosen candidate will collaborate with ECA in Washington, D.C., and with Fulbright Commissions and staff at US Embassies in the EAP to increase the participation of underrepresented groups in Fulbright programming and to offer services, support, and advocacy for them once they are participants in Fulbright programs. Those underrepresented will differ from place to place, but would include, for example, ethnically and racially diverse participants, LGBTQIA+ individuals, first-generation students, those from marginalized socio-economic communities, and individuals with physical impairments.

Essential Duties:

• To work with Fulbright Program administrators in the EAP region to identify DI issues and propose contextually sensitive solutions
• Serve as a resource on diversity outreach, training, and evaluation for the EAP region
• Identify DI training needs as well as lead and facilitate workshop sessions on DI both for Fulbright Program staff and program participants.
• Create, implement, and assess innovative Fulbright enrichment programming that pertains to DI
• Maintain a connection with relevant Fulbright identity/affinity organizations
• Establish and coordinate a network of Fulbright Program administrators specifically assigned to work on diversity issues
• As possible, act as a resource for individual Fulbright grantees, primarily at orientations and enrichment/enhancement seminars
• Travel within the EAP region under the direction of the Bureau
• Establish and monitor metrics to evaluate DI efforts

Minimum Competency Required:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Five (5) years’ experience in higher education, teaching or administration, especially related to human resources

• Thorough understanding of U.S. university culture as well as social identity adaptation processes across cross-cultural settings
• Leadership skills to direct, motivate, coordinate, and integrate the work of others

• Highly developed English-language oral and written communication skills to interact effectively with individuals and groups with varying social and cultural backgrounds
• Demonstrated understanding of cross-cultural communications
• Ability to work varied hours, including occasional evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree
• Experience working with and advocating for, and an extensive knowledge of the needs of diverse student and faculty populations
• Demonstrated interest in learning cultural aspects of countries in the EAP region
• Demonstrated knowledge of multicultural leadership development
• Experience advising and supporting students, individually or in groups
• Experience living abroad, preferably in the EAP region
• Some familiarity with higher education institutions and issues in the EAP region
• Experience training others
• Ability to interact with exchange program participants on personal and/or sensitive issues

A one-year renewable contract will be offered to the successful candidate, with a preferred start during mid-year 2020. Benefits include health insurance, vacation, and CTS (Compensation for Time of Service). Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
