This Christmas Eve, Dr Jayne C. Lammers (2019 Fulbright US Scholar from University of Rochester) and her research partner Dr Puji Astuti (Fulbright alum – Universitas Negeri Semarang), conducted a workshop titled “The Future of Work is Changing: Cultivating Digital Literacy Towards the Professional Development of Teachers” at Universitas Pakuan (UNPAK), in Bogor, West Java.
Through a connection Puji has with a classmate from her master’s degree, the two were invited to share their digital literacies expertise with an audience of 250+ people that included university students, lecturers, and alumni from Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (FKIP) English Education program, students from around UNPAK, the head of International Programs for UNPAK, a group of teacher educators from a nearby institute, and more.
Dr. Lammers began the workshop by sharing examples from her research and teaching to create moments of shared understanding about digital literacies theory. Then, after a brief question and answer session, Dr Astuti led the audience through a series of cooperative learning structures that helped the audience process and integrate what they’d just been introduced to. According to the attendees and the organizing committee from the faculty of English Education, the workshop was a success!
Dr Lammers hopes that this trip will lead to future collaborations with UNPAK faculty and with other teacher educators in attendance. Their time together in Bogor was a success, and these Fulbrighters are incredibly grateful to Ibu Atti Herawati for the invitation, to the committee for hosting and organizing, and to AMINEF for facilitating the trip.
