Congratulations to all 11 Indonesian Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) awardees who start Indonesian teaching and study in the 2020 Fall term. This year, because of the global pandemic, the grantees will first undertake online teaching and learning, and hopefully, attend the 2021 Spring semester in the US.
This year’s awardees hail from seven provinces of Indonesia. They will teach Indonesian at 11 universities across the US, such as the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, University of Colorado, Boulder, Columbia University, Harvard University, and Northern Illinois University.
Every year, AMINEF holds a pre-departure orientation (PDO) to better prepare the grantees for their Fulbright fellowships. This year in keeping with health and safety guidelines, AMINEF organized a one-day virtual PDO on September 30, 2020.
The PDO was officially opened with opening remarks by AMINEF Executive Director, Alan Feinstein. AMINEF was honored to have three keynote speakers, Dr. Brad Horn, Regional English Language Officer, US Embassy, Jakarta, Derek Cook, Director of the Fulbright FLTA Program, Institute of International Education (IIE), New York, and Dr. Dinny Risri Aletheiani, 2007 Fulbright FLTA alumna who is a faculty member at Yale University.
The PDO aimed to provide the grantees with practical information and tips, and one session centered on online teaching. AMINEF was grateful for the information shared by the experts, alumni and Institute of International Education (IIE) representatives.
Congratulations, and best wishes to all 2020 Fulbright FLTA grantees!
