ETAs Oleh-Oleh Exchange

In January, ETA Jasmine attended the Fulbright ETA Mid-Year Conference. She was tasked with organizing an oleh-oleh (souvenirs) exchange between the ETAs alongside ETA Jason and Brianna. The oleh-oleh could be cultural souvenirs from their region in Indonesia, traditional snacks or local specialties, handmade crafts or batik items, small items representing Indonesian or home culture, or a thoughtful, appropriate gift tailored to the recipient’s interests. In particular, having the ETAs guess who gave them the gift showed the gift’s success in demonstrating those points.

Jasmine received a tote bag filled with unique snacks from Kulon Progo, which meant her oleh-oleh secret gifter was ETA Jackson. Other ETAs received snacks, clothes, and accessories. The ETAs put so much thought into their gifts, and it truly was a wholesome experience. Jasmine loved leading this session and was excited for her next task when the ETAs reunite at the National WORDS Competition.

Jasmine Coley is currently teaching at SMKN 3 Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.
