Elementary School English Lessons

This month, ETA Emiko Wu began teaching English at a local elementary school. In collaboration with her school’s English Club, Emiko and several senior high school students plan and deliver a weekly lesson for a 6th-grade class at MIN 2 South Konawe.

Emiko has especially enjoyed collaborating with the senior high school students as they design lessons filled with games, songs, and friendly competitions. She is also excited to observe the exchange between MAN IC students and MIN 2 students, as well as her students’ growing confidence as they practice speaking and teaching English to younger learners. During their first visit, Emiko and the MAN IC students introduced vocabulary related to different professions before inviting the 6th graders to share their own dream jobs and aspirations. The lesson ended with Dums-Dums and plenty of photos together!

In addition to the elementary school visits, Emiko has been providing weekly English lessons to many of the teachers’ children at her site for the past few months. Lessons usually take place in the gazebo, with notebooks in hand and the occasional break to greet the many animals that roam the campus. Emiko has greatly enjoyed these interactions with her younger students and hopes that early English exposure will support their future learning.

Emiko Wu is currently teaching at MAN Insan Cendekia Kota Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi.
