Sequoia Sanchini is a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) co-teaching English at SMKN 2 Karanganyar, Solo, Jawa Tengah.
Sequoia is a recent graduate from California State University, Long Beach, where she earned a BA in Linguistics with an emphasis in Translation Studies and a minor in Spanish. She previously earned AA degrees in Spanish, humanities, and Latin American studies and has served as an English tutor online and held a Spanish-English translation internship. Her passion for languages is coupled with the knowledge that English is the language of access and culturally competent multilingual education is a necessity in a globalized world.
While serving as an ETA, she hopes to finally perfect her Bahasa Indonesia, break down stereotypes about the United States of America, and be a positive role model as a fellow language learner. She also wishes to learn more about the cultural and linguistic landscape of Indonesia, including the role of Islam and religious diversity as well as listening to as many local or indigenous languages as possible.
