Fulbright Scholar to Myanmar, Dr. Roger Marshall, was invited by State University of Malang (UM), Indonesia, as one of the keynote speakers to share his expertise on recent advances in natural language processing and speech-based computing at Second International Conference on Education and the CHIuXiD 2018 EXTENDED in March 2018. Dr. Marshall also touched on the dangers of social media in disseminating ‘fake’ news.

Dr. Marshall’s presentation in Malang was supported by funding from the Fulbright’s Regional Travel Program (RTP).

Indonesian Fulbright alumna, Dr. Siusana Kweldju, who invited Dr. Marshall mentioned that his keynote address was well received by the audience. “The participants were all very enthusiastic about his presentations. We are so grateful to Fulbright and AMINEF, which had been so generous in providing us with an outstanding speaker,” she said.

In addition to discussing recent issues in the digital world, Dr. Marshall presented two other topics, “Computers: fact, fiction, fantasy, and film” which he put into ASEAN context and his Fulbright works in Myanmar.
