A Gallery Visit at Palangkaraya

A visit to a local art gallery in Palangkaraya offered a memorable opportunity for cultural connection and creative exchange. ETA Nia Dufeal visited the gallery alongside her sitemate, ETA Christina Stoll, where they were welcomed by the gallery’s owner and primary artist for a personalized tour. Throughout the visit, the artist shared insights into his work, explaining the different styles present in the gallery and discussing other artists who have influenced his creative journey. He also spoke openly about the role of religion in shaping his art, describing how faith, symbolism, and personal reflection each play important roles in many of his pieces.

As the tour continued, the conversation expanded beyond technique, touching on storytelling, meaning, and the ways art can communicate across cultures and languages. For Nia, the experience felt intimate and inspiring, offering a deeper understanding of the local artistic community and the values that inform it.

Nia Dufeal is currently teaching at SMK 3 Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan.
