Adarsh Srinivasan is a recent graduate of Claremont McKenna College with a degree in environment, economics, and politics (EEP). He wrote a senior thesis on California’s cap-and-trade system for regulating carbon emissions, which inspired him to study Indonesia’s novel cap-and-trade program.
Adarsh is working with Professor Arief Anshory Yusuf, an environmental economist, through the Sustainable Development Goals Center at Padjadjaran University in Bandung. He is evaluating the implementation of the cap-and-trade program through a political, economic, and social lens. Alongside analyzing auction and trade data, Adarsh is interviewing both government officials and members of local communities to investigate the rollout of the program. He is particularly interested in assessing whether the program can help conserve Indonesia’s mangrove forests with their rich biodiversity.
Adarsh hopes to contribute to the success of Indonesia’s cap-and-trade program so that it serves as an example for other developing countries looking to reduce their carbon emissions.
