Alyssa, a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA), is co-teaching English at SMAN 1 Tomohon, North Sulawesi.

Alyssa Guiang recently graduated as a master of international affairs student from the University at Albany’s Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Alyssa recently worked at a nonprofit resettlement agency in downtown Albany called the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) as a case aide for the finance coordinator for over two years. In this role, she contributed to the office’s operations and engaged daily with colleagues and clients from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

As a Southeast Asian immigrant herself, Alyssa is passionate about this teaching opportunity. She is driven by her deep appreciation and love for her family’s culture and her commitment to improving the lives of students in the region. She aims to bridge American and Indonesian traditions by facilitating positive dialogues and exploring mutual learning opportunities with her host community both inside and outside the classroom.
