American Movie Club Premiere

November marked an exciting milestone with the debut of the American Movie Club at SMK Negeri 3 Palangkaraya, led by Fulbright ETA Nia Dufeal. For its first session, Nia introduced students to the film “Finding Nemo,” creating an engaging and welcoming atmosphere for learners of all English levels.

After the screening, she facilitated an interactive discussion in English, encouraging students to share their interpretations of the story, their favorite moments, and how the movie made them feel. Some students opened up about relating to themes of courage and family, while others enjoyed identifying and sharing new vocabulary. The relatability of the film left viewers laughing, smiling, and sniffling alongside the characters, helping to foster a shared sense of community.

Throughout the event, Nia ensured that the space remained supportive and student-centered, helping participants connect emotionally with the film while strengthening their language skills. The successful launch of the American Movie Club has provided attendees with a creative learning environment that they are already eager to revisit in the months to come.

Nia Dufeal is currently teaching at SMK 3 Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan.
