Andrea Decker holds a Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology from University of California, Riverside. She arrived in Indonesia in October 2017 to start her 12-month project under the US Fulbright Student Research grant entitled “’Dangdut is the Music of My Country:’ Class, Genre, and Gender in Indonesia’s Most Popular Music.” She wants to study the relationship between sound, emotion, and images of powerful women in dangdut music. Through her research, she hopes to better understand the relationship between gender, sensation, and affect. For this research, she is supported by Universitas Airlangga and Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia.
