Meet this year’s cohort of 76 Indonesian Fulbright awardees who will start their master’s, doctoral degree study, postdoctoral research, professional and educator enhancement, and teaching Indonesian programs in the US in Fall Term 2022.
These grantees hail from 27 provinces in Indonesia. Their varied fields include animation, atmospheric sciences, literature, public administration, STEM education, and many more.
They will undertake their programs in 52 universities and institutions in the US, such as American University, the University of California, Berkeley, North Carolina State University, Pennsylvania State University, Smithsonian Institution, and others.
To prepare these Fulbright grantees for their activity and life in the US, AMINEF held an online Pre-departure Orientation (PDO) on June 22 – 23, 2022. AMINEF Executive Director Alan Feinstein opened the session with welcome remarks and introduced the three distinguished keynote speakers:
– Emily Y. Norris, Cultural Attaché of the US Embassy Jakarta and AMINEF Treasurer
– Dr. Mohammad Sofwan Effendi, Director of Resources, Directorate General of Higher Education, Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology
– Dr. Philips Vermonte, Fulbrighter, and Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, International Islamic University of Indonesia
We are also grateful to all speakers, the Fulbright alumni, the Institute of International Education (IIE), and International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) representatives.
They provided information, shared insights, and answered questions for the grantees during the two-day enrichment sessions to help them succeed during their studies in the US. The 76 awardees’ profiles will be available soon on our AMINEF website. In the meantime, the breakdown of this year’s awardees is as follows:
• Nineteen Fulbright Master’s Degree
• Twenty Fulbright Doctoral Degree
• Twenty Fulbright Visiting Scholars
• Two Humphrey Program fellows
• One Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence
