David Fernando Bachrach
Award Year: 2023

David Fernando Bachrach is a doctoral candidate in the University of Colorado Boulder Department of Geography. His project studies the on-the-ground impacts of the Chinese Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, a joint Indonesian and Chinese project. By undertaking a long-term, qualitative study, his project will provide a nuanced account of this crucial infrastructure project. In particular, it will deepen understanding of the multi-scalar effects of the high-speed rail project for Indonesian and Chinese stakeholders and local communities.

He is looking forward to further working with his affiliate institutions, Institut Teknologi Bandung and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and with Professor Pujo Semedi (UGM), who graciously offered to be his research counterpart for his project.

While a Fulbright grantee, Fernando Bachrach lives and researches in Bandung.
