Dr. Walter Balansa’s research is in organic chemistry at the University of Rhode Island.  The state-of-the-art research facilities and experts in the US will open up many opportunities for marine biodiscovery derived from various marine sponges from the islands around north Sulawesi.

His degrees are all in marine natural product chemistry: a bachelor’s degree from Universitas Sam Ratulangi, a master’s from the University of the Ryukyus, Japan, and a doctorate from the University of Queensland, Australia.

Dr. Walter is a senior lecturer at Politeknik Negeri Nusa Utara Tahuna, North Sulawesi.
