ETA Brady Allen hosted the final English Club meeting on February 26. English Club had been one of Brady’s favorite activities since arriving at SMKN 1 Kutalimbaru, and he loved interacting with the dedicated students who attended. Since this was the final meeting, Brady wanted to celebrate and reflect with all the students and teachers who helped make the English Club successful.
The meeting started with some fun games, including a version of the egg-and-spoon race and the cookie face game, where students had to use only their facial muscles to move a cookie from their forehead to their mouth. The games then transitioned into a reflection hour, during which the students wrote letters to Brady while he wrote individual letters to each of them.
Once the letters were exchanged, emotions immediately set in. The students and Brady were deeply moved as they read their letters, which contained heartfelt messages about favorite memories, words of encouragement, and expressions of gratitude. It was an incredibly wholesome and genuine moment that Brady realized, in that instant, would be among the most impactful of his entire grant experience, a moment he would remember forever.
The meeting continued with students sharing memories from the past eight months and, of course, in true Indonesian fashion, one final karaoke session. This final gathering was the culmination of strong bonds and cherished moments that will stay with Brady and his students for the rest of their lives.
Brady Allen is currently teaching at SMKN 1 Kutalimbaru, North Sumatra.
