
Evan Silver is a multidisciplinary playwright and theatre director from Chicago. As a 2019 Fulbright US Student Researcher, he is spending ten months in Yogyakarta to undertake research on the role of myth in Javanese performance, which will culminate in the development of new theatrical work in collaboration with local artists and practitioners. He is affiliated with the Institut Seni Indonesia Yogyakarta and the arts organization Bumi Purnati Indonesia.
Evan completed his bachelor’s degree in Literary Arts at Brown University and recently completed two master’s degrees in English and Theatre at King’s College, Cambridge and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama on a 2017 Marshall Scholarship. He previously lived in Bali for one year as a 2016 Henry Luce Scholar, studying Balinese topeng, wayang kulit, gamelan, and mask-carving with master artists in Carangsari, Peliatan, and Batuan. Evan is eager to be in Indonesia and continue learning from its rich cultural and artistic heritage.
