Dr. Ferry Muhammadsyah Siregar will undertake research at University of South Florida on “The Role of US-ASEAN Institutions in Religious Studies in Southeast Asia: Developments, Challenges, and Opportunities: A Case Study of CRCS/ICRS, UGM in Indonesia.” He is interested in how ICRS’s partners in the US, which are Temple, UCLA, Emory, Seton Hall, Luce Foundation, Fulbright, have historically helped support that unique program in Indonesia, and how it can be a model for similar inter-religious studies programs in other countries of Southeast Asia, especially at a time of increased intolerance and religious-based violence. In addition, he hopes to be able to establish a connection with a strong group of researchers that have interests in field of religious studies.
He is a lecturer on Islamic studies at the Graduate Program at Sekolah Tinggi Pastoran St. Agustinus (Catholic Seminary), Pontianak.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies from AI-Azhar University, Cairo, a master’s degree in Religious & Cultural Studies from CRCS, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta, and a doctorate in Religious Studies from ICRS, UGM.
