Congratulations to all 79 Indonesian Fulbright awardees who will start their MA and PhD study under the Fulbright scholarship program in the 2020 Fall term. This year, the grantees will first undertake online learning because of the global pandemic and hopefully attend the 2021 Spring semester in the US.

This year’s awardees hail from more than 25 provinces of Indonesia, and they will study at more than 60 universities across the US. There are 39 Fulbright Master’s degree program grantees, 20 Fulbright PhD grantees, and 20 grantees funded by the DIKTI-funded Fulbright Grants for Lecturers – PhD program. Their study fields cover the range of science, technology, engineering, social sciences, and humanities, including sports management.

Every year, AMINEF holds a pre-departure orientation (PDO) to better prepare the grantees for their Fulbright scholarships. This year in keeping with health and safety guidelines, AMINEF organized a 2-day virtual PDO on August 26-27, 2020.

The first day of PDO was officially opened on August 26, with opening remarks by AMINEF Executive Director, Alan Feinstein. AMINEF was honored to have two keynote speakers, H.E. Heather Variava, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim US Embassy, Jakarta, and Dr. Mohammad Sofwan Effendi, M.Ed., Director of Resources, Directorate General of Higher Education, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.

The PDO aims to provide the grantees with practical information and tips, and one session will center on online learning. The sessions’ facilitators are Indonesian Fulbrighters currently studying in the US, alumni, and Institute of International Education (IIE).
