Dr. Helen will present her doctoral dissertation on content literacy and materials development. This special event in collaboration with Universitas Papua is intended to help spread and enrich knowledge on teaching and learning English in West Papua. All are welcome as this is an event that is open to the public and free of charge.

Dr Helen is a lecturer at Universitas Surabaya. She received Fulbright scholarship in 2013 to pursue her doctoral degree at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in the United States.

A short summary of the research:

This study focuses on the ability, or inability, to replicate or compare the design of text-related research from the perspective of the independent or dependent variables employed in such designs. Previous text-related research has used variables that were not clearly described or defined, could not be directly compared from one study or time period to the next, or were applied inappropriately. Measurements of typography-related and substrate-related variables may have absolute or relative values, and confusion can arise if the variables are not clearly identified and defined.
