Fulbright Research Presentation on Control, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Engineering

FRP Edi Kurniawan revisi 8 Maret (1)

AMINEF and Prasetiya Mulya University invite you to a Fulbright Research Presentation on Control, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Engineering by Dr. Edi Kurniawan (2018 Fulbright Visiting Scholar program) on March 19,  2019, at 09.00 – 12.00 at Prasetiya Mulya University, BSD.

Dr. Edi is a senior researcher at Research Center for Physics, Indonesian Institutes of Sciences, Serpong, Indonesia. He was awarded Fulbright Visiting Scholar in 2018 to conduct research on Learning Control at Northern Arizona University. He earned a doctoral degree in Control System from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, a master’s degree from University of Adelaide, Australia, and a bachelor’s degree from Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. His research interests include learning control, robust control, adaptive control, speech recognition, image processing, sensor, and optoelectronics.

Here is a brief summary of his research entitled “Functional Electrical Stimulation Control and Electromyography (EMG) Reading”:

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) becomes a common device used to send an electrical signal to stimulate muscle for helping people in improving their motoric functions. The research investigates the use of learning algorithms for controlling FES when it is applied to regulate repetitive movements such as walking and cycling.  It explains how to design and simulate the learning algorithms and several control criteria, that later will meet control objective of these movements. The visibility of learning control algorithms will be assessed in this research project. In opposite to FES, Electromyography (EMG) is a device measuring electrical currents generated in muscles during its contraction representing neuromuscular activities. The research was then extended to the study of Electromyography (EMG) reading and normalization, in addition to FES control.

Dr. Edi will be joined by two other researchers who will present their respective research:

1. Dr. Agung Alfiansyah
Home Institution: Prasetiya Mulya University
Research Title: Massive Anonymous Mammography Analysis and Storage (MAMAS)

A short summary of the research:

This research is a cross-disciplinary between data security (anonymity), medical image computing and Big Data. We developed a platform contain method and implemented a tool to perform diagnosis of breast cancer and secure the patient’s data at the same time. Regular mammograms can detect the development of breast cancer at the earliest and therefore patient might get a good prognosis. For long-term follow-up, these mammograms data must be securely stored as this data is particularly sensitive in terms of privacy. Typically, mammograms database includes the images, metadata and actual diagnoses of physicians. It is therefore particularly vulnerable to de-anonymization attacks. The goal of this project is to set up an architecture to train and use these algorithms while ensuring the patients’ privacy. For the diagnostic tool, hybrid algorithms between Resnet type Artificial Neural Network and Conditional Random Field to detect the presence of breast cancer in mammogram images is developed. The system can be trained in an end-to-end manner so that the training process can be made faster and easier.

2. Dr. Permata Nur Miftahur Rizki
Home Institution: Prasetiya Mulya University
Research Title: Bringing the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Indonesia from the Perspective of Academic Institution

A short summary of the research:

Industry 4.0 represents a special challenge for businesses in general and for an academic institution in particular. This work prepares academic institution’s awareness, readiness, and capability to meet this challenge taking into special roles in providing the talented graduated student. As a catalyst in the learning process, this enables industry 4.0 technology pillars: IoT (Internet of Thing), RFID, big data processing & analyzing,  cloud computing, and mobile technology in our campus. Those technologies are implemented as a number of projects in the Collaborative STEM Laboratory Universitas Prasetiya Mulya.
