AMINEF and Universitas Padjadjaran invite you to a Fulbright Research Presentation (FRP) and Panel Discussion on microfinance issues with women empowerment on October 19, 2019, at 08.30 – 12.30 at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD), Dipati Ukur campus.
Dr. Putu Desy Apriliani, 2014 DIKTI-funded Fulbright Grants for Indonesian Lecturers – PhD will present her dissertation “Suami meminjam, istri menjamin:” Keuangan Mikro, Pemberdayaan Perempuan, dan Relasi Gender di Bali. ”
Dr. Desy’s doctoral program was in planning, governance, and globalization at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Summary of the presentation:
The study investigated the impacts of Lembaga Perkreditan Desa (LPD) – a community-owned village bank – to Balinese women from the perspective of four female LPD clients residing in various villages in Bali. The aims were to gain an understanding of rural Balinese women in navigating their opportunities in a male-oriented microfinance system. The study found that members of society – female and male – develop a shared understanding, norms, trust, and resources to strengthen their ties among each other called community capital. Furthermore, it also found that there exists a two-way relationship, instead of one way, between social capital and LPD.
Dr. Desy is a lecturer at Universitas Udayana.
The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Kurniawan Saefullah, a lecturer at Fakultas Ekonomi and Business, UNPAD and Ir. Poppy Sophia Bakur, M.EP, the Head of the West Java Office for Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection, and Family Planning. This discussion will be moderated by Dr. Elnovani Lusiana from the Faculty of Communication Science, UNPAD.
Also, Dr. Desy will share tips and insights into studying in the US reflecting her DIKTI-funded Fulbright Grants for Indonesian Lecturers – PhD program.
