Indonesia Presidential Scholarship Program Launched at the State Palace

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono launched on April 2, 2014 the “Indonesia Presidential Scholarship” at the State Palace in Jakarta. The scholarships will be awarded to the best 100 Indonesian students this year who are admitted to pursue studies at the Master’s or Ph.D. level at one of the top 50 universities in the world.

Funding for the scholarship comes from the the National Education Endowment Funds. The program is administered by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan or LPDP) in collaboration with the Ministry of State Secretariat, Ministry of Education and Culture, Minister of Religious Affairs, and Ministry of Finance.

According to Minister of Education and Culture in his speech, it is expected that with the Presidential Scholarship and other available scholarships the ratio between Master’s degree holders and one million of population would increase from 2,300 currently to 16,000 by 2030. The ratio for the Doctorate degree holders would increase from 143 currently to 14,000 by 2030.

Aside from the new scholarship program launching, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officiated the opening of seven new public higher education institutions namely Universitas Teuku Umar in West Aceh, Universitas Tidar in Magelang, Universitas Siliwangi in Tasikmalaya, University 19 November in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, Politeknik Negeri Subang in West Java, Politeknik Negeri Ketapang in West Kalimantan, and Politeknik Negeri Tanah Laut in South Kalimantan. Four hundred guests including all Cabinet Ministers, university rectors, officials of the related ministries, representatives of foreign Embassies, and scholarship providers, including the AMINEF Secretariat attended the event.
