Jeopardy: Past Tense Sentences

ETA Adeena Ali introduced an American game called Jeopardy, which was used for the first time in a classroom setting. In her 11th-grade class, the game was designed to help students practice using the past tense and learn how to change verbs from the present to the past tense. There were four teams in the class, and the instructions were explained in Indonesian and English with the help of her co-teacher.

A mock round was held before officially starting the game so students could adjust and ask any remaining questions. The students had been learning about the past tense for a couple of weeks, and Jeopardy offered a fun, interactive way to practice speaking in past-tense sentences.

The game included five categories: Past Tense (Positive Connotation), Past Tense Questions, Past Tense (Negative Connotation), Past Tense (Regular), and Past Tense (Irregular). The questions ranged in difficulty, with point values from 100 to 500. Each team took turns answering the questions, but other teams could steal the points if they answered incorrectly.

The students enjoyed playing the game and reviewed each question carefully to ensure they understood the material.

Adeena Ali is currently teaching at SMAN 2 Tanjungpandan, Kepulauan Bangka Belitung.
