Lev Horodyskyj is teaching hybrid geosciences, public policy and diplomacy courses to students at Universitas Khairun in Ternate from February through August 2020 under US Fulbright Scholar program. During these courses, in addition to learning fundamental geoscience concepts, students will have the opportunity to negotiate and debate international policies linked with those concepts with students participating in similar courses in the US. He is also be working with faculty at the university to incorporate 21st century digital teaching approaches into the classroom.
Lev Horodyskyj is an educational innovator, working through his nonprofit Science Voices to help overlooked communities improve and digitize their science education resources and curricula.
He holds a PhD in geosciences and astrobiology from Pennsylvania State University. From 2010 through 2018, he worked at Arizona State University, co-developing, building, testing, teaching, and researching the digital astrobiology lab course Habitable Worlds. His research focuses on understanding how students learn in the digital environment and how adaptive and interactive courses can be designed to help students from all backgrounds succeed and excel. Those insights have been extended to new projects for sustainability, public policy, and diplomacy courses in recent years. Additionally, he founded and continues to work with the science programming track at Phoenix Fan Fusion (formerly Phoenix Comicon), an annual pop culture event with 75,000+ attendees.
