US Fulbright Student Researcher Marria Peduto is working with researchers at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha in the Aquatic Resources Department. Her research concerns the Indonesian Coral Reef Garden project on Bali to better understand the impact of reef restoration on local livelihoods, namely small-scale fishing. She hopes to engage with various stakeholders on the island to foster community action towards sustainable fisheries management.
Marria was a Critical Language Scholar and will return to Universitas Negeri Malang to continue her Indonesian language education through the Critical Language Enhancement Award.
She graduated summa cum laude from Indiana University with triple degrees in sustainable food & marine systems, international studies, and East Asian languages & cultures. Her continued academic focus is on marine policy and sustainable fisheries.
