In December 2024, Annie Cowen, a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) at SMA Xaverius Bandar Lampung, organized a Jeopardy-style review session in class to help students prepare for their midterm exam. The interactive game allowed students to review key topics in a fun and engaging way while reinforcing their English skills.
Annie introduced Jeopardy to the students as part of American culture by watching a video clip of a previous match, familiarizing them with the game before starting the review session. The interactive game allowed students to review key topics in a fun and engaging way while reinforcing their English skills. The session was designed to encourage active participation and teamwork. Students were divided into small groups and competed by answering questions related to vocabulary, grammar, and lesson content from previous units. With categories such as “Guess the Sport,” “Grammar Challenge,” and “Synonyms/Opposites,” the game not only helped students review academic material but also provided an opportunity to learn about American culture.
Annie incorporated a friendly, competitive atmosphere to motivate students to engage with the material and work together. The Jeopardy format allowed students to see where they needed improvement and provided a dynamic, relaxed environment to prepare for the upcoming exam.
The session was a great success, with students actively participating, collaborating, and enjoying the review process. Annie is excited to see how the students apply what they’ve learned in their midterm exams and look forward to continuing to use creative methods to keep students engaged in their English learning journey next semester!
Annie Cowen is currently teaching at SMA Xaverius Bandar Lampung, Lampung.
