It is with deep sadness that AMINEF announces the passing of Drs. August Kafiar, MA, a former member of AMINEF Board of Management and a Fulbright alumnus on Friday, September 13, 2019, in Jayapura, at the age of 74.

Mr. August served for eight years on AMINEF Board in 1998 until 2006. He was a member of the People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia (MPR) for 15 years in 1982 until 1997, a former Rector of Cenderawasih University from 1988 to 1996, and Senior Advisor of PT Freeport Indonesia.

Mr. August was awarded a Fulbright Master’s Degree Scholarship in 1977 to study education and linguistics from the University of Kansas.
