Obituary: Prof. Susan Williams, UC Davis

Obituary

With shock and sadness, AMINEF learned today of the death of Prof. Susan Williams on April 24 morning in a car accident in California. In the following newspaper article, the terrible details can be found, “Bodega Bay scientist dies in six-vehicle Petaluma crash, three others injured.”

Prof. Williams, 67, a distinguished marine biologist from the UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory, made two visits to Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas), Makassar in 2017 and 2018 as a Fulbright Specialist to teach, study, and help the university’s lecturers and staff in studying and preserving coral reefs and promoting ocean health. The AMINEF website contains a report of her Fulbright Specialist activities at Unhas.

As the news article states, “Her death was mourned across the globe as news reached her students at UC Davis, fellow researchers at the Bodega Bay laboratory, and associates in Indonesia.” Our thoughts and prayers are with Professor William’s family and loved ones during this tough time. As soon as further information regarding a memorial service and how to send condolences is available, AMINEF will post the information.
