Rainy Days Call for Games

This month, after a school trip to Palembang, ETA Maria Osman’s classes returned to a lively introduction of analytical exposition text with an interactive opinion game. Despite the rainy weather outside, the atmosphere inside the classroom was filled with excitement and energy.

Maria divided the students into five groups and set up seven “opinion posts” around the room, each featuring cards from different categories. The groups rotated between the posts, selecting a card at each one and discussing why they chose it. Using prompts like “We chose… because” and “… is better than… because…,” the students wrote down their reasons and moved on to the next post.

After completing the circuit, each group enthusiastically explained their choices to the class. The activity got the students moving and encouraged teamwork and critical thinking while practicing English in a fun and engaging way. By the end of the lesson, the students had developed their language skills and learned to express their opinions more clearly, turning a rainy day into an exciting learning experience.

Maria Osman is currently teaching at SMK Abdurrab Pekanbaru, Riau.
