Dr Ramadanil is a lecturer in biology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Tadulako. His bachelor’s degree in biology is from Universitas Andalas, his master’s degree in environmental biology from Institut Teknik Bandung, and his PhD in botany, specializing in plant taxonomy, from Institut Pertanian Bogor. He has worked for some time on plant diversity in the Lore Lindu National Park in Central Sulawesi.
His research at New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) aims to produce a systematic account of the rattans of Sulawesi. He will collaborate on a field guide with Dr. Henderson, a US Fulbright Scholar from NYBG, based in Universitas Tadulako, during his Fulbright US Scholar grant in 2017-2018. There are already many herbarium specimens in New York (from the NYBG’s own herbarium and specimens borrowed from other herbaria). Together with the specimens collected by Dr. Henderson and Dr. Ramadanil in 2017, these specimens will form the basis of the research.
