Retty Dwi Handayani studies public health policy and management at Emory University. She focuses on the foundation of the health systems and how to apply political analysis to address issues related to the accessibility and affordability of safe and qualified medicines. She considers the importance of a stronger position to lead and develop effective policies that can have a transformative impact and support Indonesia’s health policies.

Retty is the head of the law enforcement division at Balai Besar Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan (The Indonesian Drug and Food Authority, Regional Office), Jakarta. She is responsible for formulating, planning, and managing intelligence and cybercrime activity related to the diversion of food and drugs in Jakarta and ensuring effective enforcement of diversion-related laws and regulations.

She earned her bachelor’s in pharmacy from Universitas Gadjah Mada and a master’s in National Resilience Study from Universitas Indonesia.

Through the Humphrey Program, she plans to take on a significant role in policymaking, enabling her to improve her capacity to detect, prevent, and eliminate harmful products using innovative technology. She also will strive to build collective awareness and advance public health protection, especially concerning the safety, efficacy, and quality of medicines for all people.
