School Anniversary Celebration

Christina Stoll, ETA at SMAN 2 Palangkaraya, dove headfirst into preparations for her school’s anniversary upon her arrival. Leading up to the anniversary, students participated in SMART Fest, where they demonstrated their entrepreneurial spirit by hosting a student-led pasar (market) every evening and planning for the school anniversary on October 28. Christina was asked to join a Dayak dance performance, practicing with students between teaching her classes and learning the dance in just a week and a half. Christina learned a simplified version of the choreography from the dance team and their teacher, Ibu Rini, thereby improving her Indonesian skills. In contrast, the dance team worked together and improved their English skills. Learning a different style of dance in a different language while navigating a different culture was no easy feat. Still, through teamwork and open-mindedness, the event was a success, and students were excited to see their new teacher participating in their culture.

Christina Stoll is currently teaching at SMAN 2 Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan.
