Sean Hayward is a composer and performer based in Central Java. His music is a reflection of his wide ranging interests, which include minimalism, Javanese music, metal, ancient tuning systems, and interdisciplinary story telling. Notable projects include the score for Umbilical (dir. Danski Tang), a recent album with the string trio Cenglu, and research on the music of Banyumas under a Fulbright grant in 2019. Sean has also served as a lecturer at UCLA, CalArts, and ISI Surakarta. Hayward holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts from California Institute of the Arts. He is currently working on a Fulbright Scholar Teaching grant, focusing on courses surrounding cross-cultural composition at ISI Yogyakarta.
