SMK Abdurrab’s Local WORDS Storytelling Competition

On November 23, ETA Maria Osman and SMK Abdurrab Pekanbaru hosted their local WORDS storytelling and storybook competition, culminating a month of preparation and creativity. The competition was not just about storytelling—it was a journey of learning and growth. Through weeks of workshops and preparation, the students deepened their connection to tradition, honed their creativity, and built confidence in their storytelling abilities.

Students from grades 10 and 11 worked diligently in workshops led by ETA Maria to craft their narratives centered on this year’s theme, Tradition. The event brought together 11 talented students who presented their imaginative stories alongside beautifully illustrated storybooks.

Three judges evaluated the storybooks, applauding the students’ efforts and originality. The excitement was palpable as participants proudly showcased their work to an audience of peers, teachers, and judges. After much anticipation, one winner emerged, earning the opportunity to represent SMK Abdurrab Pekanbaru at the national WORDS competition in Jakarta this February. ETA Maria looks forward to accompanying the winner and cheering them on as they share their story on a national stage.

Maria Osman is currently teaching at SMK Abdurrab Pekanbaru, Riau.
