ETA Brady Allen and his fellow teachers at SMKN 1 Kutalimbaru were celebrated during the annual Teachers’ Day on November 25.

The day started with a school-wide flag ceremony, unlike anything Brady had experienced at his high school in America. Students and teachers lined up and listened to speeches honoring teachers’ contributions.

Following the ceremony, all the teachers and staff from SMKN 1 lined up before the students. One by one, students came up to shake the teachers’ hands and give out small treats to their teachers.

Roughly 1,000 students participated, which meant that Brady and his fellow teachers made out with quite a collection of candies and some tired hands. It was a rewarding experience for Brady because he felt very fortunate and grateful to be part of such a close-knit and welcoming school community.

To top off an already wholesome Teachers’ Day, Brady and his fellow teachers visited a local river where they shared laughs and a refreshing swim.

Brady Allen is currently teaching at SMKN 1 Kutalimbaru, North Sumatra.
