Theodore Chao is an associate professor of mathematics education in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University. For his Fulbright ASEAN U.S. Scholar grant, “Digital Mathematics Storytelling in Southeast Asia,” Dr. Chao is working with mathematics teachers and students in Vietnam and Indonesia to explore how the art of storytelling can connect mathematics pedagogy with cultural and family knowledge and traditions through modern mobile video practices. “My project connects the ways youth and teachers in Vietnam and Indonesia create community and cultural identity through video sharing and exploring culturally mathematics strategies and identities from a non-Eurocentric perspective,” notes Chao.
This project is supported by Ho Chi Minh City University of Education in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia in Bandung, Indonesia.
