
Dr. Thomas Boving is a Fulbright Specialist at the Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) in Yogyakarta from May 29 through June 22, 2023. The goals of the program are to transfer knowledge and technology in contaminated soil and groundwater remediation, investigation, and modeling, train UII students and faculty on advanced research tools, and lay the groundwork for future collaborative research projects and student exchanges. Also, the program includes a scientific writing workshop and networking opportunities via meetings and outreach activities.
Dr. Boving is a professor of Environmental Hydrogeology at the University of Rhode Island (URI), Kingston, US. He is joint-appointed to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Geosciences. He is the incoming chair of the Department of Geosciences and the Director of the Masters of Environmental Science and Management (MESM) program. Boving received his PhD in Hydrology and Water Resources Management from the University of Arizona, Tucson, US. His Diploma in Geology is from the University of Tübingen, Germany. Dr. Boving is a co-author of the leading textbook in his area of research (Contaminant Hydrogeology 3rd Ed.). With over 30 years of experience, his research focuses on innovative soil and water treatment technologies, fate and transport of emerging contaminants, and riverbank filtration technology. Dr. Boving has been a Fulbright scholar at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee and a Fulbright specialist in Kathmandu, Nepal, and currently works with universities and non-governmental organizations in Nepal, Indonesia, and India on water treatment, rural water supply systems, and sensor-controlled irrigation.
