Can black soldier fly be used to recycle wasted food?
Fulbright Student Researcher Tyler Butkus comes to Indonesia to find the answer by proposing a project “Optimization and Evaluation of Black Soldier Fly Recycling in the Indonesian Supply Chain.” This recycling system, which employs black soldier fly, converts organic waste to feed for poultry or aquaculture. Tyler wanted to evaluate the effectiveness of this system in reducing farmer costs and waste production in the face of infrastructure. Tyler will do the project in a small farm in Yogyakarta. For this research, Tyler, who graduated from Elizabethtown College, is going to be supported by Universitas Negeri Malang. He expected to finish the project in October 2018.
