Dr. Steve Earnest, a Fulbright Scholar in China, recently delivered a series of workshops in Thailand, as a part of his Fulbright Regional Travel Program.  A total of 65 students and alumni from the Department of Dramatic Arts, Chulalongkorn University joined the workshops, which was held in late January.

The workshop participants learned about techniques in acting for the camera and the art of improvisation through theater games and activities. They explored the juxtaposition of the compact world of camera and a stretched world of improvisation.

“The workshop was extremely successful and fulfilling for both myself as well as the students and alumni of the university.  After the workshop many students noted that the workshops were some of the best that they had during their time there,” said Dr. Earnest, who recently completed his Fulbright Scholar program at Nanjing Normal University, China.

The workshop taught the participants to assess themselves by engaging in the opposing styles of performance, that is camera versus improvisation. At the end of all workshop sessions, the Scholar and the workshop participants were always engaged in a dialogue about the pursuit of acting opportunities in Thailand.  Having done some background study on the topic, Dr. Earnest was able to suggest ideas about seeking work in movies and television in Bangkok and surrounding areas.
