Fulbright U.S. Scholar to Myanmar, Dr. Jaeil Lee’s public lectures and workshop in Cambodia

Thanks to the U.S. Embassy in Phenom Penh for setting up my visit and to all the participating universities and organizations.

My program topic on entrepreneurship with a focus on the textile and apparel industry in Cambodia was timely considering the current situation in the Cambodian fashion industry as they struggle to advance their industry to be more competitive in the global market. Providing public lectures at universities was wonderful opportunities to interact with the future leaders of the fashion industry. Moreover, meeting with faculty members to review their current fashion curriculums was exciting.

It was also a rewarding experience to support local women textile entrepreneurs in the region and to provide a workshop on “Building a Competitive Apparel Business for the Global Market with a Small Business Perspective.” I was glad that they were clearly encouraged and provided with new insights.

Finally, visiting Cambodian Garment Training Institute, located in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, and having a discussion on Fashion Curriculum Development for their Vocational Training program and learning the current situation of the industry from an insider’s perspective was an interesting and rewarding experience. I was able to provide my suggestions and insights.

From the visit, I was able to broaden my understanding of the current status of fashion education and industry in Cambodia. I am sure that this understanding will create numerous positive outcomes in my future research collaborations.
