Wenssy Steva Nussy is an English teacher in one of elementary schools in her village, Amahusu. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Pattimura University, majoring English Education and recently admitted to St. Michael’s College in Vermont to study TESOL.
Since graduating, she has been teaching in several institutions and from all of her experiences, she learns that it is easier to teach English to elementary school students than to secondary or higher level students because the children find it interesting and not so difficult since they are only taught simple basics, mostly vocabularies. So, at this stage of education, she thinks it is important to make them enjoy studying English through creative learning strategies in order to avoid the perspective that English is a complicated subject later in higher levels. That is why she wants to continue her study focusing on how to teach English to speakers of other language. And why US? Well, besides all of the obvious reasons: great schools, professional teachers, complete facilities, she also believes in “practice makes perfect” and the only way to study a new language is to experience it firsthand.
