The day after returning to the site from orientation, ETA Emma Muth joined in a celebration for the 60th anniversary of her school, SMA 1 Temanggung. The day started with an early morning walk around the city with current and past students. After the walk, everyone returned to the school for food, music, and even a Javanese traditional flash mob!

Some students sold batik they made during art class while others performed in bands with their peers. Alumni from decades earlier joined in the fun, reuniting with their former classmates. At night, a formal ceremony was held in Temanggung’s city square with more food and performances. Emma was so impressed with the talent of her students and loved meeting the alumni, many of whom traveled from different islands and overseas to attend the event. This large of a celebration only happens once a decade at SMA 1, making the weekend a special way to kick off her first week of teaching.
