ETA Navara Syed, along with her sitemate Aurelia Tan, were invited to the American Corner in Andalas University to guest star on their podcast! The goal of the podcast is to promote cross-cultural communication and mutual understanding between Andalas University students and the various guests of the American Corner. Navara was invited to record two different sessions, on varying topics.

The podcast began with a short introduction to who each of the ETAs are and why they are in Padang, followed by questions about their experiences. The podcast topics included Ramadan in Indonesia versus America; and friendships and the culture around friendships in Indonesia versus America. While recording, various other topics were touched upon including niche aspects of American culture, culture shock in Indonesia, and Navara’s experiences as an American Muslim. Through this experience, the ETAs were able to share the more complex feelings they have had about living in Indonesia, while being able to provide more information about daily life in America.

Navara Syed is currently teaching at SMKN 6 Padang, Sumatera Barat.
