On Tuesdays after school, SMAN 2 Demak hosts the English Club. ETA Tessa Sontheimer and her co-teacher Ibu Dian hosted the first English club of the year on August 27, 2019. The topic of discussion at the first English club meeting was introductions and playing an American board game. Tessa introduced herself with images of the 2019-20 Indonesia ETA cohort, her family, and her hometown Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Each student then introduced themselves in English and shared an unforgettable experience, encouraging the students to use English while learning about English. At the end of the English club, the students played Tessa’s favorite American board game Bananagrams, which involves using tiles to build words. The students in the English club found creative words in their tile pile and then built sentences using these words. The next English club meeting will be a facilitated discussion about how an English club can best serve the interests and cita-cita (aspiration) of the students of SMAN 2 Demak.
