On Wednesday, September 23, ETA Maria Isabel “Isa” Nieves came to her second English Club meeting prepared to divide the group into two since sixty-one students showed up in the first meeting. This number of students proved to be too much to handle, especially for the ETA to learn the names of each member, which was a task the ETA really wanted to accomplish. However, as she waited for the students to show up and for the clock to strike 3:30 pm, she realized that only a handful of students were going to be present.
Ten students showed up and this caused a lot of relief. She suddenly had more flexibility around activities the members could do. Also, she had the opportunity to memorize all the students’ names: Raras, Ceacealia, Luna, Muna, Yudit, Fifi, Febriana! They played an epic game of charades in which everybody won. It was particularly funny when a girl acted as the Hulk and everybody thought she was acting like a monkey. Another funny moment was when a boy picked up Harry Potter from the hat and acted out an entire game of Quidditch. In the end, everyone left feeling excited about the English Club and the ETA left with many more ideas to plan.
Maria Isabel “Isa” Nieves is currently teaching at SMKN 7 Surakarta, Central Java.
