Arry Purnama studies composition and applied linguistics for a doctorate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His research seeks an alternative, practical approach to examine the practice of discourse on social media, specifically Indonesian and American people, related to their political views.

His undergraduate and graduate degrees were both in English linguistics from Sunan Gunung Djati State Islamic University, Bandung, the former and from Padjajaran University, for the latter.

Arry is a lecturer at Al-Ghifari University.
