Ashari is a lecturer at the Department of Politics and Government, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). He earned his Bachelor’s degree in political science from UGM in 2008, and Master’s degree in public administration from the University of Delaware in 2013.

His research interests and professional background is in village-level politics. The politics of corporate social responsibility (CSR) have inspired him to pursue a PhD degree in political science specializing in comparative politics. His proposed research will examine how citizenship is constituted and practiced by local communities in relation to the oil industry within the context of CSR.

After completing his PhD he will return to UGM to focus on research and teaching of resource politics, in addition to providing technical assistance to government, civil society organizations and corporations.

For his Fulbright Doctoral degree program in political science, Ashari is placed at State University of New York, Albany.
