Ben Moy

Ben Moy is an independent researcher from Massachusetts. His research titled “Understanding Socioeconomics of Shark Fishers in Tanjung Luar Village” analyzes the potential impacts of shark regulation and conservation measures on local fishers. He will collect quantitative survey data from Tanjung Luar village on the island of Lombok. This research aims to provide a broader understanding of fishers as a stakeholder to help make informed decisions to benefit shark populations and community members.

Ben is affiliated with Universitas Udayana in Bali and works alongside Dr. Gede Hendrawan of the Marine Science and Fisheries Department. Before starting his research, he will complete a three-month Critical Language Enhancement Award at Wisma Bahasa in Yogyakarta.

Previously, Ben received bachelor’s degrees in environmental science and geography from Villanova University. He has also worked for the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as a marine biologist on commercial fishing vessels in Hawai’i.
